The Mysteries of the 800; Adjusting to Barefoot Running

Physiologist Ross Tucker tells Sarah Barker about the mysteries of pacing and the 800 meters, that 50/50 split of speed and endurance, HERE.  Why don't the top 800 runners negative split?  Why is the fastest second lap in an 800 a pedestrian 51.60, the pace for a 1:43.20 finish?  Enquiring minds want to know.
